Argos Awaits Odysseus
After wandering for twenty years after fighting in the Trojan War, Odysseus comes home where his dog, Argos, awaits him. The myth is tragic - Odysseus' kindgom of Ithaca has been taken over by men trying to marry his wife and replace him, and his old dog is neglected. Odysseus enters his palace disguised as a beggar and can't acknowledge his dog so as not to give himself away to the suitors. But both dog and man recognize one another. Argos dies, Odysseus avenges his wife and himself with his terrible bow. This is a personal commission.
